North Coast highlights

The first stop on our all day scenic Kangaroo Island North Coast Tour will be Pennington Bay, one of the island’s most photographed ocean beaches where dolphins regularly frolick in the surf.

Climb Prospect Hill (depending on your fitness), where you can experience the same panoramic views seen by Matthew Flinders when he first mapped the Island in 1802.

Visit the unspoiled wetlands of Duck Lagoon to view a variety of Australian water birds and other wildlife.  Alternatively, visit the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Sanctuary to see more of Australia’s unique wildlife.  Kangaroo Island offer a range of private wildlife interaction experiences.  Many of these experiences will need to be booked in advance and involve additional costs.

Travel the beaten track to Western River Cove for a leisurely stroll along the picturesque banks of Western River where you will see stunning rock formations and pristine sandy beach.

The North Coast Road to Snelling Beach is arguably the most scenic drive on the Island.  Not only are the views beautiful, we also regularly see pairs of wedge-tailed eagles soaring in the thermals as they hunt along this coastline.

At Stokes Bay explore an interesting walk and discover a ‘secret’ beach.

South Coast highlights

The first stop on our Kangaroo Island South Coast Tour is the awesome Pennington Bay.  Have your cameras ready!  Then you’ll have the choice to visit either:

Raptor Domain: An environmental, educational and rehabilitation centre which provides interactive experiences with wildlife. Everyday Raptor Domain offers great free-flight displays, showcasing many of Australia’s raptors such as the majestic wedge-tail eagle. Most of the birds have been injured or orphaned and are not suitable for release. They are now amazing ambassadors for their species.
Seal Bay Conservation Park: Home to an Australian sea lion population for thousands of years, and one of the most exceptional nature-based experiences in the world. Australian sea lions are unique to South Australia and Western Australia. They are an endangered species – their total population is about 14,700. Seal Bay is the third largest colony of these magnificent creatures.

Flinders Chase National Park, where you will visit Admiral’s Arch.  This is a beautiful natural rock arch sculpted by weathering and erosion from the sea over millions of years. Weirs Cove is where the first lighthouse keepers lived and is not only interesting from an historical perspective, but also offers spectacular coastal scenery. Remarkable Rocks is an amazing granite rock formation created over the last 450 million years.
While in the National Park, we will also go on a short nature walk to see koalas in the wild.  Witness the amazing resilience of the Australian bush following the catastrophic fires in 2020.

On the way home, and depending on timing, we may visit Vivonne Bay, voted one of Australia’s best beaches, or Hanson Bay.
